TRAVEL TIPS

Prepaid Subway Cards

JR East offers Suica, a rechargeable debit card that can be used in Tokyo on JR and non-JR trains and subways, and is also accepted for payment at convenience stores and some vending machines. PASMO is another rechargeable prepaid card and offers the same as Suica. Both cards cost a nonrefundable ¥500 each, but it can be worth it for the flexibility to travel between all of Tokyo’s transportation networks. Another option is to get a one-day pass; Tokyo Metro's One-Day Open Ticket gives unlimited use of all Tokyo Metro lines for ¥600, while the Tokunai Pass offers unlimited use of all JR lines for ¥750. The ¥1,590 Tokyo Furii Kippu covers JR subways and buses.
